Sam Thompson met Elvis through his sister Linda, Elvis’ long time girlfriend. He was a former Sheriff’s Deputy in Memphis when he went to work for Elvis. Starting in 1972 Sam took care of security and acted as a personal bodyguard until Elvis’ death in 1977.

There's less than two weeks now until our superb Elvis event in the seaside town of Worthing, West Sussex. Things are warming up on the coast and we look forward to giving fans the chance to browse the UK's largest and most impressive collector stall and dance the night away to the sounds of the King with DJ Shayne Driscoll.

We're sure you'll recognise a couple of well known faces, including David Wade from The Elvis Presley Travel Service, who will be on hand to talk to fans about future events and trips to Memphis. Of course, David met Elvis in 1972, so he may tell you about that, too!

You'll be able to relax and watch rare Elvis footage via a huge screen and grab yourself a cool beer whilst chatting to other fans and old friends. Lamar Fike Has Died

It's with great sadness that I have to report the death of the Godfather of the Memphis Mafia, Lamar Fike. Very often misunderstood, Lamar was always outspoken and he shot from the hip, but once you broke through his hard exterior (as I did) you found a soft, caring giant who often cried when talking about Elvis.

Lamar spent some time with me here in the UK as my guest some years ago, and we often hung out in Memphis. One-to-one time with him was always fun and I respected his often blunt ways. Without doubt, Elvis loved Lamar and I'm sadden by his passing. Many of you won't be, but you didn't know or understand him.

SHUT HAPPENS

Unfortunately, due to a rather disappointing retail year I’ve decided to close the Elvis Shop & museum with immediate effect. It’s with regret and frustration that I have to announce the closure, but like so many businesses, it’s just not feasible to continue with a retail unit that is simply not making any kind of profit.

Sadly, although it has been wonderful to see a handful of regular customers, it’s obvious that this kind of venture is not something that attracts a large number of fans.

IF ONLY I LIVED CLOSER

It’s virtually on a daily basis that fans tell me that if they lived closer they’d be in the store all the time. The location of the store has not been the problem. No matter where in the country we are situated, we will always have been a long way from someone. We’ve advertised extensively both locally and countrywide, plus we have a busy website and a huge Facebook group. In my opinion, the problem has mainly been the lack of support, the ever-present Elvis politics, and the fact that Worthing is an extremely seasonal town.

IMPORTANT

It’s important for everyone to know that the store closure does NOT affect the company in any way. Essential Elvis UK and it’s publication remains a healthy business and by weeding out ventures that are not profitable, we can ensure that there is a great future ahead. Our mail order department is extremely busy (with 85% of our overall sales), and the magazine now has a record number of loyal subscribers. It’s just our retail idea that has not taken off as well as expected.

EXCITING PLANS

The end of our presence on the high street means that we can now spend more time on some exciting ideas for 2011, including a proposed series of collector’s fairs ensuring those customers who enjoyed regular visits to the store can still purchase their Elvis items in person and browse new releases.

So, as Essential Elvis UK reverts back to Internet purchasing (isn’t everyone?) and phone orders, I’d like to thank those fans that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting in Montague Place. The support was definitely there, but the measure just wasn’t large enough to sustain my dream of owning an Elvis shop.

Good To Be Back

Gravel Road is back again. They will soon deliver a fantastic release that is every bit as good as their highly acclaimed Return of the Prodigy. The December 13th 1975 is widely accepted as one of the finest later-period Presley shows available on soundboard. Yes, the punk lounge rock feel of the ’69 shows was now gone, but in its place were a warmth and an intimacy that were just as captivating in their own way.

Our man was in top form vocally in late ’75 (just listen to his sensational vocals on How Great Thou Art), and the December 13th ’75 midnight show stands out as one of the finest from this engagement. This show was the first soundboard to be released on bootleg back in ’91, causing quite a sensation at the time. The technology used for working on vintage recordings have improved greatly in the years since then, and Gravel Road has used the latest version of the renowned Oxford / ProTools technology to work on this show.

The results are it’s an obvious sound upgrade that makes this remarkable show shine that much more - Just like you’ve come to expect from us with Prodigy. It’s also interesting to point out that this release is more complete than the aforementioned ’91 release (which had several edits).

Good To Be Back is a title that really captures the sentiment of the show, since Elvis clearly enjoyed being back on stage again following his August ’75 hospital stay and subsequent three months of rest. He’s relaxed and in a great mood, and he delivers several fantastic performances, with one of the highlights being a beautifully sung Just Pretend.

This new Gravel Road release is a true keeper. Presented in a stunning digi-pack with numerous photos from the actual show, memorabilia related to this engagement, intelligently written liner-notes packed in a 28 pages booklet. As an extra, a special limited “Concert Tour ’75 Photo Folio” as it was available during the tours and Vegas shows in the 70's with some totally new colour photos in high quality from the '75 tours. This album is one of those rare releases that you just got to have.

It’s made with great professionalism and love for Elvis, and this shines through in every single detail of this release. ‘Prodigy’ was sold out within weeks of its release. Order Good To Be Back now to avoid disappointment.

Late Night Xmas Event At The Elvis Shop

This year we are offering customers a great late night shopping event at The Elvis Shop & Museum in Worthing. Come and get in the festive mood with lots of fantastic Elvis Christmas music!

It’ll be held on Thursday, December 2nd and will feature something for everyone. From 4pm Santa, his sleigh and three reindeer will be in Montague Place, so make sure that the kids bring their letters and Christmas lists along.

Lamar Fike OK

Several websites are reporting that Elvis' longterm buddy Lamar Fike is seriously ill in hospital - not true! He was admitted several days ago to Arlington Memorial Hospital by his cardiologist for almost complete dehydration, which was leading to his kidney's shutting down, but he was discharged on October 22nd. I placed a call directly to Lamar himself just 10 minutes ago.

Suspicious Minds - Already A Lost Cause?

From the minute we opened this morning angry fans have been calling regarding the new Suspicious Minds single – out today (supposedly).

All over the country there have been staff at HMV stores scratching their heads regarding the release, and it seems most don’t even know anything about it. Now, this isn’t the fault of HMV’s staff, but Sony Music who should ensure all high street stores are aware of the single and are carrying sufficient copies.

Many of you are feeling understandably upset but I really can’t answer for another supplier, especially when WE are advertising / selling the new single. If you chose to purchase on the high street rather than support a 100% Elvis organisation then you might just come across people who don’t give a monkey’s about Elvis. But we do! You can get the single from us and yes, we do count towards chart figures (as if there’s any point!).

Whilst I’m getting things off my chest – I’ve lost count of how many people are walking around The Elvis Shop with Clinton Cards or Calendar Club bags containing the 2011 Elvis calendar when we sell them at the same price. Come on guys!

UPDATE

Just had a reply from the regional sales manager at Sony who says, “Apparently a 7 inch and CD single of the new album mix of Suspicious Minds is due at the end of November.” but a second email a few minutes later states, “I’ve just been told this has changed to pending and might only be released as a download track. No physical formats. Still waiting on confirmation, so I would not take any orders at the moment. It’s looking unlikely.”

IT'S ALL GOIN' ON!

The last couple of weeks have certainly been both hectic and exciting. The big break-away between Arena Travel and the OEPFC has dominated the news and I have no doubt that the split will mean that we can all work together a lot more easier to unite the UK Elvis scene. For the first time in many years I now feel that there is a clear road ahead allowing me to step things up a gear.

I've already noticed a large serge in subscribers, Facebook friend requests and visitors to our Elvis shop in Worthing. Fans who have always felt restricted by ‘Elvis politics’ are now offering their support and being a part of our organisation, and for that I am truly grateful.

It will arrive slightly later than usual due to several last minute news items and announcements that we’ve felt important to include. At Last - Unity Is Becoming A Reality

Over the past few weeks huge changes have taken place and as a result we should see a far more united Elvis scene in the UK. For many years fans have felt divided by politics and boundaries put in place to force loyalties, but a change of huge proportion has just been announced.

In an attempt to remove various restrictions, a decision has been made by Arena Travel (aka The Elvis Travel Service) boss, David Wade, to continue offering exciting Elvis-themed events and overseas trips independently from the OEPFC.

I have enjoyed several phone conversations with David over the past few weeks and as a result I’ve concluded that the partnership break will inevitably result in a far more workable future for the Elvis social calendar.

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Arena Travel and Essential Elvis UK will be working together closely from now on to ensure that fans have a far more united approach. It’s important to both of us that every fan feels welcome and has a fantastic experience which ever Elvis event they chose to attend, or group they chose to support.

With Essential Elvis UK and Arena Travel bringing fans together, the British Elvis scene will, without doubt, be the best in the world.

I’m delighted to be involved with Arena Travel and I’m extremely excited about the future.

So, What’s In Store?

After 15 years at ‘Mabo’, Arena Travel is moving the annual party event to a great new location at the 5 star Vauxhall Park in Great Yarmouth, and for the first time ever, we will be there!

The move is sure to be popular with old and new fans alike. With a fresh start, the team will be able to attract and accommodate new fans and therefore have an even better entertainment programme.

Since the announcement 250 fans have already booked to attend the festival, which will be from September 10th to 17th 2011, and you too can reserve a place by sending £10.00 deposit per person directly to Arena Travel (see http://www.arenatravel.com/).

Thankfully, All Arena fixtures will remain non-impersonator events, and if anyone has any ideas for entertainment or guests then please let us, or them, know.

There have been a few last minute developments regarding our guest list. In addition to the legendary Bill "Superfoot" Wallace, we have great pleasure in announcing that two more original Gladiator attendees will be present on the evening of the 11th. Rick Stanley and Barbara Klein Bauer were there in September 1974 during the filming and will be on hand to greet fans almost 36 years later.

Although he was not featured in the 1974 footage, we are delighted that Billy Stanley will be joining Rick in talking to the fans. Unfortunately, Elvis' brave "ookie", David Stanley, will not be in town.

We are 99% sure that Master Wayne Carman will be joining us, too. Hopefully, within hours we will have a definitive answer from Wayne's office about his attendance. Of course, Wayne was a huge part of the Gladiator project and trained with Elvis for several years. Master Carman is the narrator for the Gladiator DVD.

Today I will be calling Master Al Holcome (known as Mr. Bear) who also features heavily in the original 1974 footage. Master Holcome is the martial artist who joins Red West in the "fist in Elvis' throat" clip. Sadly, Master Holcome no longer has good mobility and cannot make the stairs, but the purpose of my call is to tell him that we want him there so badly that if we have to, we'll carry him to the first floor!

We are excited to let you know that Gene Barksdale, former Shelby County sheriff and Presley friend has confirmed, so too has Elvis' 1975 Memphis girlfriend, JoCathy Brownlee Elkington.

Us guys are really looking forward to meeting Toni Loper, the current reigning Miss Shelby County. Toni is a huge Elvis fan and I have asked her to bring along some 8x10 photos to sign for us male admirers!

We are also working on having the newly elected Shelby County sheriff in attendance.

We have been in contact with Master Kang Rhee and he has declined our invitation.

Al Holcome and Elvis

I've just come off the phone with Al Holcome in Memphis. Al's health really is not good at all. He is on oxygen most of the day and is now confined to a wheelchair, but he was extremely interested in attending our event on the 11th. I assured him that getting him up the stairs was certainly achievable and with several strong men ready to "bump" him up in his chair, it would be no problem. If he felt that this would not be possible, then I informed him that we'd all be willing to greet him outside for a short photo opportunity with Bill and the others. I made sure that he knows just how important he is to the event and that we'd do anything to make his presence possible.

So, basically, health permitting, Al will be there.

Myself and the team are looking forward to seeing lots of you tomorrow at the Elvis shop & museum in Worthing.

The weather will be baking but luckily, our side of the street gets the shade early afternoon, so it'll be nice and cool to chill out in the sea breeze. Next door is a great bar called The Biz so if you like a beer, they'd be happy to serve you. PLEASE ONLY USE CHAIRS AND TABLES BELONGING TO THE BIZ IF YOU'VE PURCHASED FROM THEM.

We'll be starting to serve the hog roast at around 1pm. Expect a real taste of Memphis with BBQ pork along with Hickory sauce, salad, roll and a cold drink of your choice. This great lunch is just £6.00 per person and YOU'LL NEED TO PAY AT THE SHOP before you eat.

Now, the shop is a reasonable size but I'm slightly concerned that if everyone shows up at once we'll have a problem with crowding. We have plenty of stock and we're open until 5pm, so there is no need to be outside at 10pm. Please be aware that there may be times throughout the afternoon when the shop might be packed. Maybe try to stagger your visits.

As I look over towards the pier the sea looks inviting as there are lots of amusements, kids rides, trampolines and even a classic Punch & Judy show. Obviously you'll be free to come and go as much as you like throughout the day, so if it's too busy at the shop, pop back after a wasting a few quid on the pier!

Shayne Driscoll will be playing Elvis music, and singing a few songs, outside the shop all day long.

The event in the evening starts at 6pm. Charge is just £5.00 on the door to cover the cost of hiring the venue. We are considering a SMALL stall in the evening, but please do all your purchasing at the store during the day.

Sara Erwin, Elvis' friend and Graceland neighbour, visited our Elvis shop & museum this afternoon. Fans enjoyed chatting to Sara for several hours, who flew in from her Memphis home (just over the Graceland fence) just yesterday. You never know who you might meet at the UK's only Elvis shop!

Just last week we gave fans the chance to meet someone that actually dated Elvis. There was no charge to attend and those that did enjoyed some quality time with an extremely friendly and generous lady who had nothing but kind words to say about Elvis.

Today I've been saddened by some comments by a number of blinkered women in regards to Sherry dating a married man. Firstly, you're gonna have to "attack" the other couple of thousand or so women. Secondly, it was a two-way street with Elvis usually convincing the young lady that he was separated from Priscilla. And thirdly, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE?

I'm not in favour of married people having affairs in any way but hey, were talking about Elvis Presley here!

A young fan, who has only just discovered the King, was recently allowed to wear Elvis’ famous yatching cap for a once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity. Jade Marshall was visiting the Elvis shop & museum on Friday when the rare decision was made to unlock the cabinet for just a few minutes. I’m sure you’ll agree that Jade looks every bit as good as Elvis did in the cap.

So, it was the beautiful Sherry Williams who joined fans at the UK's only Elvis shop and museum this week. Elvis and Sherry dated on and off from 1970 to 1972 and remained friends untill he died. The last time that they saw each other was during Elvis' last Hawaiian vacation in March 1977.

The flashlight once belonged to Elvis and is now part of our museum. As soon as Sherry saw it she recalled Elvis carrying in everywhere. One time he woke her up by shining it in her face. "Are you awake, honey?" Elvis said. "Well, I am now!" Sherry replied.

The last few weeks really have been amongst the busiest in years. As Elvis would say, I've been busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking competition! Of course, the biggest news is the opening of our new shop and museum in Worthing.

Although it’s been hard work and costly to launch, I’m pleased to report that it seems to be paying off and all signs currently point towards it being a great success. It’s really a fabulous place with a great atmosphere, not to mention all the wonderful Elvis things for sale. If you’ve not stopped by, please consider doing so soon. You’ll be warmly welcomed.

I’d like to just remind all of you of a few other exciting things that myself and the team are currently working on. Sara Erwin, Elvis' friend and original Graceland neighbour, will be making the trip from Memphis to Worthing in a few weeks. Sara, who wrote the book entitled Over The Fence, will be signing copies at our shop from 1pm to 3pm.

Why not come and meet Sara, hear some first-hand Elvis stories and find out what it was like to actually live next door to the King. It's worth a visit just to enjoy Sara's Southern drawl!!!

You’re also invited to the official opening of the shop / museum from 10am on June 5th with lots of Elvis promotion. • Wednesday, August 11th

The team at Essential Elvis UK have arranged a one-time-only event at an incredible venue with an equally incredible guest.We have secured exclusive access to the old Tennessee Karate Institute on the corner of Cleveland Street and Overton Park Avenue in midtown Memphis.

This is the location where most of the Gladiator's DVD was filmed. The building is now privately owned, but we are pleased to let you know that the area in which Elvis trained has remained pretty much untouched since 1974.

We aim to celebrate Elvis' dream project with a special guest who also starred in the DVD. We are flying in none other than legendary karate champion Bill "Superfoot" Wallace to be at our event... exclusively!

We are working on other guests, including at least one other who appears in the DVD and who was there when Elvis trained at the TKI. So, come and meet "Superfoot" informally, watch a karate demonstration and enjoy some light snacks and soft drinks. We will also be showing some private footage on a big screen.

MEMPHIS CITY COACH TOUR AND DINNER

For the first time ever we will re-united two of Elvis’ early girlfriends, Barbara Hearn and Dixie Locke, to meet fans and reminisce about their time with Elvis during his breakthrough years.

But that’s not all. We are still in talks with other exciting guests who may join us during the evening.

ABOUT THE TOUR

Pick-up points will be at the Peabody (11am), Heartbreak Hotel (12am) and outside the Insider’s event in Southaven (1pm). Our party will then visit Elvis’ former Circle G Ranch in Mississippi and up to sixty-five sights towards south Memphis, downtown and midtown. You’ll enjoy an in depth look at various sights with commentary from Elvis historians and researchers.We will provide a light snack aboard our luxury, air-conditioned coach to see you through to the evening, and there will be several stops enabling you to take photos and to stretch those legs. We have recently discovered new sights as a result of several interviews with those who spent time with Elvis in Memphis. Magazine And Shop Updates

Our biggest annoyance right now is the Royal Mail. Finally, after a few nail-biting days, I'm now sure that pretty much all of our subscribers have got the latest magazine, which was posted on March 31st (check out the postmark). We went all out to ensure everyone got their envelopes before the Easter break, but we were let down by the postal system when the mags took over a week to arrive. With the cost to post each issue running well into three figures, I wonder if the Royal Mail might refund some of the charge. You know the answer there, right?!!

We've already had a lot of great feedback from those subscribers who were lucky enough to get their magazines over the last couple of days. Many fans have called into the shop to pick up a copy (and beat the poor service offered by Royal Mail) and it seems everyone is delighted. I'm extremely proud of our publication and I have no problem in openly promoting it as the best Elvis magazine in terms of quality, content and presentation. Of course, it's strength lies firmly with our contributors who regularly produce the best features, articles and interviews ever printed. I thank them for their work, and I thank all our readers for their valued support.

The biggest company dominance right now is our newly opened shop and museum in Sussex (above). It really has been an incredible few weeks with a constant stream of visitors from all over the country. I've enjoyed meeting many regular customers face-to-face for the fist time and seeing lots of new fans who have all been impressed with the store. We've had a great deal of fun and all signs are pointing towards the venture being a huge success.

I must tell one quick story... A couple of weeks ago a rather terrifying skinhead walked into the shop - Dr. Martin boots, bomber jacket and covered in tattoos (including C.F.C. on his forehead!). I was pretty sure that I was about to be robbed and could almost picture the newspaper headlines stating "New Elvis Shop Owner Stabbed By Skinhead". The sight of this guy flicking through the Elvis CDs looked incredibly strange until he turned and asked (in a rather soft voice) if the movie playing on the plasma screen was Clambake. For the following hour we chatted about Elvis movies and how he was raised on the King. His expertise was exceptional. I can tell you, for a few minutes it was hard to match up what I was seeing and what I was hearing. John has called in several times since we've opened and he really is the nicest guy. Elvis really has hit a huge and varied circle of people and you just never know who might be a fan.

It's been great to see so many young Elvis fans visiting, too. Many children have been showing me their Elvis impressions (most better than the grown-up impersonators) and one young guy even insisted on his parents tucking a tea towel in the neck of his T-shirt for a cape!

I'd really like to thank all those who have supported the store over the first few weeks of trading (especially those who travelled long distances and stayed in local hotels). Everyone is very welcome and I can GUARANTEE a courteous and friendly service. Myself and the team look forward to seeing you soon (especially in this sunshine).

Many of you have asked how things have been going at the Elvis shop and museum here in Worthing, West Sussex. Well, we enjoyed seeing a steady stream of people throughout our first week. Lots of locals were understandably inquisitive, and many informed us that they know Elvis fans and we were ensured that they'd be spreading the word.

We had a busy Saturday (yesterday) with customers visiting from various parts of the country including Clacton, Watford and even as far afield as Bournmouth.

The local papers were also very supportive during the week with a couple of impressive features, and BBC radio covered the opening with a live interview.

BTW, we will be open over the Easter holidays (Friday, Saturday & Monday 10am to 5pm. Closed on Sunday). I have some extremely rare, one-off and hard-to-find CDs that I'll be offering over the coming weekend. Once they are gone, that's it.

So, basically, I think the venture will be a great success and a lot of fun. I hope to see as many of you in Worthing as possible.

Can I just add that we have a great store below us called My Place, which sells a stunning range of ladies clothing, accessories and jewellery (and some really cool sunglasses!). Perhaps some of you girls might like to take a look when visiting the Elvis shop.

Just minutes ago I was talking to Shayne Driscoll (one of the famed Peckham Driscoll brothers) about our recently announced Fun In Worthing event in June (scroll down for more information). Shayne asked what kind of interest I'd had. I explained that several people had enquired as to who the guest was going to be. As there's clearly no mention of a guest on the flyer and as we are charging just a fiver to get it, we assumed that it was obvious as to the kind of event we were offering.

"Maybe we could just get an old bike and raise a few laughs by telling everyone that Elvis rode it whilst singing Mexico." suggested Shayne. "How about finding a huge, ugly Mexican guy and kid everyone that he was that small boy in the movie?" I suggested. Shayne continued with the silliness, "We could just hold up an old bikini and tell them it belonged to Ursula Andress!"

Shayne, in his typical style, finished by saying, "Ah, let's just tell 'em all to jump off a cliff!"

This is why Shayne is our main man!

This is the location where most of the Gladiator's DVD was filmed. The building is now privately owned, but we are pleased to let you know that the area in which Elvis trained has remained pretty much untouched since 1974.

We are working on other guests, including at least one other who aprrears in the DVD and who was there when Elvis trained at the TKI.

So, come and meet "Superfoot" informerly, watch a karate demonstration and enjoy some light snacks and soft drinks.

We will also be showing some private footage on a big screen.

There are still some finishing touches to be done, but we have enough detail to be able to make an early announcement as we feel this event will sell out fast. This year we will offer fans something unique in terms of a combined tour of the sights and a great dinner at Elvis’ favourite Italian restaurant. For the first time ever we will re-united two of Elvis’ early girlfriends, Barbara Hearn and Dixie Locke, to meet fans and reminisce about their time with Elvis during his breakthrough years.

But that’s not all. We are still in talks with other exciting guests who may join us during the evening.

ABOUT THE TOUR

Pick-up points will be at the Peabody (11am), Heartbreak Hotel (12am) and outside the Insider’s event in Southaven (1pm). Our party will then visit Elvis’ former Circle G Ranch in Mississippi and up to sixty-five sights towards south Memphis, downtown and midtown. You’ll enjoy an in depth look at various sights with commentary from Elvis historians and researchers.

We will provide a light snack aboard our luxury, air-conditioned coach to see you through to the evening, and there will be several stops enabling you to take photos and to stretch those legs. As Elvis often said, “Just sit back and leave the drivin’ to us.”

A Minnesota Minute - New book!

MRS will publish its first standalone book as a limited edition only release. The 9×11 inch hardback book contains 100 pages in full colour gloss print, featuring the photographic works of Tim Healy in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the Elvis show on October 17th 1976.

As the Minneapolis Tribune reported at the time, “Elvis is in as good shape as ever and, of course, as a performer on stage, singing or just fooling around, he has more charisma than a dozen other top performers combined. Will Elvis endure? Judging by the screams of the audience he’s in no trouble.”

With Elvis slimmed down and performing better than earlier in the year, Tim Healy’s exclusive photographs manage to visually capture Elvis’ new-found enthusiasm effortlessly and in an uncannily realistic way. MRS are proud to release this new look at Elvis in 1976 and all the photographs contained in the book are completely unreleased. The upcoming FTD release of A Minnesota Moment front cover (out on February 15th), is also the work of Tim Healy.

We are considering staging an event in Memphis during EW10. Just looked at EPE's schedule and we shocked and surprised that their impersonator competition runs over three nights!!! Considering EW is supposed to be in tribute to "Elvis" and just a "week" (clue is in the name) it's somewhat alarming. I honestly believe that it's keeping fans AWAY from Memphis during such times.

It's getting bad, folks!

I've just been told a fact that has completely turned my stomach. A friend who was in Memphis for BW10 earlier this months has informed me that she witnessed an impersonator greeting people INSIDE Graceland. Apparently, he was signing autographs like he was something important. It makes me feel quite ashamed.

Last January I had to witness the utterly cringe worthy sight of an awful-looking impersonator in a cheap jumpsuit on the lawn of Graceland during the BW09 ceremony on January 8th. He continuously ruined everyone's enjoyment by yelling "Satnin" to Priscilla, trying to get her attention. Incredibly, this nutcase thought that this was Elvis' nickname for Priscilla!!! Then, and most amazing of all, a huge group gathered around him to get photos and autographs blocking our way down the drive. Unreal!!!

Personally, I think EPE should put a ban on wearing jumpsuits in Graceland and on the grounds, especially the Meditation Garden. Mobile phones / cellphones too!

Our Flowers At Graceland

Today would’ve been Elvis’ 75th birthday and many of our friends and subscribers are in Memphis celebrating. Temperatures are extremely low, but feelings are running high. Already fans are expressing disappointment that Priscilla, Lisa and Elvis' grandchildren spoke to fans at the proclomation for just a short time because of the freezing temperate. But hey, it's bitterly cold in Memphis and nobody wants those guys catching flu, right?

Crazy?

A lady just called the office asking if we knew anyone who wanted to buy a stuffed HMV Nipper. The soft toy dog originally came from the Paul Lichter collection and was supposedly from Elvis' 1957 Californian tour. The buyer was informed that Elvis "romped" on stage with the toy, but we've never seen any evidence of this happening. The above photo shows a "solid" nipper, the one in question is a soft, stuffed version.

Just moments ago I received my preview copy of Dr. Nick's book entitled The King And Dr. Nick. I have been kept in the loop regarding this long awaited project with transcripts, and I honestly believe that this will be a book warmly received by fans around the world.

In my opinion, it's a fantastic and interesting read. It's beautifully written and an extremely important part of the Elvis story that needs to be told. I respect and understand that not every fan will wish to purchase this book, but for those truly interested in Elvis - the man, you'll find it fascinating.

The deluxe edition of this beautiful set (with a release date of December 28th) arrived just moments ago, and it looks fantastic! Many were concerned about the set being rather flimsy (like the I Believe packaging) but it's quite the opposite. On first inspection it's really sturdy with a high quality booklet. I have to say, I'm very impressed.

Obviously, being Christmas Eve, we'll not be able to dispatch in time for any festive listening, but we'll get to work on sending sets out as soon as we can.

This incredible book has just arrived from Europe, but sadly not in time for Christmas. It was delivered just a few minutes before we closed on the 23rd, which did not leave us time to re-package each book and dispatch before the last courier delivery today (24th).

The good news is that the book is stunning. Over 300 pages with 1000+ pictures - most in colour and many are rare and unpublished. New Elvis magazine due January 9th

Well, since returning from Memphis on the 9th I've been sitting in front of my PC putting together the latest magazine, which finally went off to the printers today. It actually turned out to be 68 pages in the end.

Being a man, I've never found multi-tasking easy and so I've not had time to do much else over the last few days. Because the magazine needed to be designed as quick as possible to meet the deadline, my correspondence with many of you has been a little slow.

My apologies for being elusive recently. I have a habit of almost hibernating when I've an important job to do. Anyway, I'm now done, and looking forward to the next week or so with the stress of being a magazine editor over for a while.

Back to the mag...

The next edition will contain some BIG surprises in terms of content and appearance. I've great pleasure in announcing that it'll be in full colour, with a fresh new design. In my opinion, the new look equals anything that you may find on the high street. I'm sure you'll enjoy what myself and the team have been working on.

You Can't Keep A Good Website Down For Long!!!

I've just been talking to our website designer and our new site will go live TOMORROW (Friday 27th)!!!

I must stress that this is a brand new website and has no connection whatsoever to the old site that was attacked and eventually destroyed by hackers. This new site is completely safe with a new secure host and all precautions in place. So you can feel 100% confident in clicking on the link below.

There will be one or two pages that will still be under construction, and a little tweaking needs to be done here and there, but the website will be online within hours.

This signifies an end to a rather unpleasant period as far as our online dealings are concerned. It's been a tough few months but "only the strong survive" and we're about to bounce back bigger and better than before.

Small (but important) update...

Firstly, due to my trip to Memphis the office will be closed from this Friday (27th) and re-open for business on Monday, December 7th. So, if you could hang on to those emails and wait until we get back until you make those phone calls, that would be helpful. There will be someone at the office, but the order line will be closed during the above period.

I have some incredible things lined up for the new magazine. I'll be visiting some great new places on the Elvis trail. I have meetings with some amazing people for interviews including Barbara Hearn, Dixie Locke, Dr. Nick, George Klein, Bill Morris and Al Holcomb ("Mr. Bear" from the new Gladiator DVD).

Ouch!

It's not often that I laugh out loud these days, but I've just talked with Dave Hebler, Elvis' former bodyguard. British fans may recall that comedian Frank Skinner made a documentary several years ago (during which I acted as consultant) that featured a meeting between Frank and Dave in Miami. We touched on the subject and Dave surprised me by saying, "Tell Frank that I still have a warm fuzzy feeling whenever I think about me whacking him in the throat!"

Some BIG changes on the way for EE:UK

As we rapidly approach the end of 2009 I find myself looking forward to a fresh year with optimism. To be perfectly honest, the last few weeks have been fairly testing as far as business is concerned. Firstly, we've had our website problems, which caused a considerable amount of damage, loss of time and cost. Now the dreaded postal strikes are adding to our problems.

As a result business has certainly been affected and as expected the rumours started to circulate around the Elvis world. Let me assure you that no matter what you may’ve heard through the grapevine, we are fighting fit and bursting with fresh ideas for the future.

Now and again a business might get hit with a series of problems that’s completely out of its control. These difficult times have certainly made us stronger and even more determined to continue to serve Elvis fans throughout the world with a fantastic magazine and a friendly mail order service.

Thankfully, I have a superb team behind me who are the best at keeping me on top form with encouragement and much needed support. Outside of my family, Mike Burton, Diane Johnston and Trevor Simpson have been extremely instrumental in steering the good ship Essential Elvis though stormy waters. Thanks to these great friends and the large number of you who contacted me with messages of appreciation.

I've realised that I've been flogging a dead horse as far as our main website is concerned. The damage that was recently done by hackers is so severe that I've decided to scrap the site and have a brand new, fresh homepage designed. In a few more days you'll be able to access a new EE:UK website that will outshine the old one. I'm very excited about what's being done and I can guarantee a terrific change when visiting us on line.

Our new magazine is due back from the printers on Friday, but guess what? The bloody postal strikes mean that we'll not be able to dispatch them until Tuesday next week. It's certainly worth waiting for. Packed with interviews, features and reviews etc., I can recommend setting aside a few hours for a brilliant read around the middle of next week.

There will soon be a BIG announcement regarding our magazine. It's a change for the better and I'm pretty sure that what we've got planned will be the talk of the Elvis world for quite some time. We'll let you know what's going on as soon as we can.

We're back!

After a short period of maintenance in order to ensure our main website is completely free from problems and running safely, it has now re-opened and things are back to normal (thanks to Mike and Diane). As everyone knows, we were targeted by hackers who attempted to cause as much turmoil as possible to our business, but to quote the title of a great Elvis song - Only The Strong Survive.

Again, I'd like to underline the fact that we are still very much in business and the recent website problems have not effected the company in the slightest. We are working on several exciting future plans including some groundbreaking interviews and features. Watch out for a big surprise announcement in the New Year.

Memphis Recording Service will release a special "collectors edition" CD entitled Tupelo Welcomes Home Elvis Presley featuring two concerts and rare interviews.

This release will also come with a 40-page hardback book packed with rare photographs on Elvis’ homecoming concerts in September 1956 in Tupelo, Mississippi.

The book will include recently acquired new information on the recording of the concerts by Ron Brandon and the WTUP Radio interviews by Charlie Watts. Text is provided by Roy Turner and Ron Brandon. Release date is expected to be November 16th.
