Another Elvis site gone in Memphis!
Pop Tunes closes its doors

A victim of changing music tastes, digital downloads and the Internet, Pop Tunes shut its doors just yesterday. The historic original store at 308 Poplar, and a second location at 4622 Faronia, were closed by Music City Record Distributors, the Nashville company that had owned Cat’s Records and acquired the Pop Tunes stores in 2001.

“I could see it coming,” said Steve Burge, manager of the Poplar store for 35 years. But he didn’t know when until a Music City executive arrived at the store to close it just after noon.
